Library Journal's Best Databases of 2011

The folks at Library Journal have just announced their choices for the Best Databases of 2011 and here at the LRC we are proud to provide many of the winning selections.

Not surprisingly, one of our favorites - Credo Reference - took top honors as Best Overall.  We agree with the comments of one librarian who said, "it’s the best database she uses, with straightforward search and results pages."

Another database we added in 2011 - Gale's Biography in Context - also got rave reviews in taking Overall Runners-Up honors.  The database earned praise for going beyond standard reference material to add radio, images, video, journal, magazine, and newspaper content to enhance the biographical material.

Through our partnership with NC LIVE, we offered two more recognized eResources in the Literary Reference Center and the Auto Repair Reference Center, both from EBSCO.

Other LJ honors VGCC patrons enjoy access to include: the newly redesigned Gale Virtual Reference Library and CQ Researcher“CQ Researcher and CQ Global Researcher provide users with balanced, authoritative, and in-depth coverage and analysis of a broad range of current U.S. and global affairs via a very reader-friendly framework,” says Bruce Connolly, one of the members of the review committee.
